With 3 weeks extra lockdown confirmed, a great family activity to do with the children is a Covid-19 time capsule. This is firstly a good opportunity to understand how your kids might be feeling and understanding of the situation. But importantly could give you something to look back on fondly in the future.

There is great hope that the next generation will remember this time as one where the family bonded closer together. There is plenty of opportunities to document this, and you can even put pictures in or a video diary if sealed correctly.

What is a time capsule?

A time capsule is an intentional method to communicate with the future with a collection of goods, everyday memorabilia or information from the current time. Typically used by historians to understand the time period, they can serve as a useful reminder for oneself.

The concept is very simple, find a sealable container, fill it with information, and bury it in the garden or hide it in the house for someone to find in the future. You may choose to place a plaque to notify of its existence.
